In an image, here was my weekend:

But there was more:

And more:
I have never stayed in a hostel before, I have never been to Galway before, I have never taken a bus tour through the Irish Countryside that has showed me not just the popular “touristy” things, but also showed me a mother sheep and her two lambs, and I have certainly never stood at the edge of the Cliffs of Moher where one wrong move could send me plummeting to my death. Never until this weekend I mean.
I am not trying to sound morbid when I talk about standing on the edge of a Cliff that dives 400 (or so) meters straight down, but it is the reality. These Cliffs, quite literally, are drop dead gorgeous. I was taken by them the moment our bus came into sight of their magnificence. And the longer I was at the Cliffs the more in love I fell. It didn't matter that looking straight down, right on the edge was the scariest thing I had done in a long time, it didn’t matter that I was standing in freezing winds, winds that could easily have blown me off the edge, it didn’t matter that compared to these Cliffs, I was no more than a speck, it didn’t matter that I used 50 pictures on the same image, all that mattered was the beauty that I had before me. At that moment there was nothing that could make me unhappy; it wasn’t just the Cliffs that were making me feel this way, but the weekend in general…
I was spending the weekend with V, in a hostel that felt like camp (ten to a room in bunk beds, yup, definitely camp), I was also spending the weekend with about 15 others that are becoming good friends, I was in one of the prettiest cities in Ireland, and I was getting to see one of the most beautiful scenes of nature in person. I couldn’t ask for more (except perhaps, a giant slab of D’s out of the box, just add oil and eggs, cake. :P)
The city of Galway is small, but charming. It is pretty and it is what you imagine an Irish city to be. The pubs were laden with live music each night, everything from live cover bands, to traditional Irish music bands. These pubs made for a perfect last night to a fun weekend. When we all came back from the tour (which included baby lambs, castles, and leprechauns (a plush toy, a clearing in which they are said to live, and even their own miniscule church)) we had dinner and headed to a local pub. Here we danced and sang late into the night; a perfect end to a perfect day. The next day we were all heading back to our “homes,” but before we did, V and I spent a few hours exploring the city of Galway, which doesn’t take long, it’s small. Visiting the Cathedral, the campus, and planning our trip to Scotland (a Scottish guy we met at a cute tea/lunch house gave us a ton of great pointers and sights to see) made the day a good one. The only bad part of the day was saying good-bye. Having to say bye to V was tough…but I get to see her soon!
